Thank you for taking the time to put this into words. Something I think few people realize is that growth works differently for everyone. For some, consistent practice is best. For others, growth comes in spurts or leaps. For me, the only way I’ve ever grown is: sprint, full stop, reflect, take up something completely different, sprint, etc. I’m physically incapable of consistency, it seems, and just now beginning to accept it. You’re totally right about the email lists. They can be worth the while, but most of the time they’re just another distraction from doing the actual work. Just thought of Radiohead: they do almost no social media, newsletters, nothing. What they do is drop an insanely jaw dropping album every 3–5 years. Nothing in between. That’s it, and it’s obviously “enough”.
